Already in March the first films of festival-competition AXX LATVIA will reach the cinema screens in Latvia. The spectators of the films will judge, which 4 authors of the short films will receive the finances for making the film in the second round of the festival-competition.

In the program of the festival-competition will participate 8 short films specially shot for this festival:

Fever

The basic question of the film – how far are we ready to go to fulfill our dreams? The hero of the film – Raimonds decides to take part in the short film festival and together with his friends drawing inspiration from films „The Blair Which” and “Bonnie and Clyde”, decide to make up a “real” bank robbery.

Authors of the film idea are Jaffa Riga and Brainwash. Creative group - Arturs Mednis, Reinis Varakalns, Gatis Mikāns. In roles - Kārlis Freimanis, Ieva Kiršteina, Andris Liseckis un Raimonds Ruzenieks.

Refrigerator

Mrs Jansona is an elegant oldish lady, the dream of which is a green dress, but a daily necessity – new refrigerator. Film is a humorous story about how Mrs Jansona gets them both.

In daily city life rush two strangers meet each other, but they have a similar background and their view to the world is different from other peoples view. This movie is about irrational love in a rational point of view and about choice between fantasy and reality.

Lāčplēs: troubles with a piece of wood

Lāčplēs is a piece of wood pulled out of sea, with masculine shape and ears of bear. Mara has taken that piece of wood home from fishing. Troubles begin at home, when the woman touches the ears of the piece of wood.

A comic story about three brothers Skrivaneks from the Czech Republic, which are determined to help in any worries, but – do the succeed?

„From the moment of the announcement of the results all eight film authors have done a great job, making these 10 minute short-films. Already in March we will hand them to the appreciation of the spectators, but in April we will organize the voting in the television to appoint those four authors which will continue to participate in the competition for rights to shoot a full-length film. I think that our competition shows tendencies of Latvian films altogether and, probably will reveal new talents” says Marcis Gulbis, producer of the AXX festival in Latvia.

The last autumn in Latvia began a new festival – competition “AXX Latvia 2006/07” –a project the aim of which is to give an opportunity to creative Latvian youngsters to try their forces in to film field. Anyone could participate in the competition not taking into account their experience nor education – the ideas were passed to the jury members and for the first 8 most successful idea authors a funding were granted for the realization of their ideas into a 10 minute short-film.
